Gillian Welch occurs as singer/songwriter whose musical style combines elements of bluegrass, country, and folk into a rustic style that she dubs American Primitive. Her music is often described when haunting or even soothing.

Welch was natural in October, 1967 in Manhattan, and was adopted on the day she was natural. She moved to Los Angeles at the age of iv. Per age of vii, she got learned to play a guitar. Researching at a University of California, Santa Cruz Welch discovered Bluegrass music. Fallowing the short stint inside the local band, Welch moved to Boston and studied at a Berklee College of Music.
